So you’ve discovered Fuerteventura and now you want to step a little further afield. Lobos is an island nature reserve, situated two kilometres north of Fuerteventura. It is served by the Naviera Nortour ferry company up to twenty seven times a week weather permitting.
This delightful little island is the home to many weekend tourists and to the local fishermen and their families. Sparsely populated, this is the ideal get away from it all location. The island is six square kilometres and it is eight kilometres from southern Lanzarote. The main beach is Playa de la Concha renowned for its bathing in crystal clear waters. There are two other beaches that of Caleton Beach with its blue lagoons and the cutely named Popcorn Beach. Each with its own merits, whether you stay one day or one week you are sure to fall in love with Lobos and return here often.
The island was given its name by the Spanish conquerors and meaning ‘Island of the Wolves’ as in sea wolves that is the monk seals that originally inhabited this dramatic island with its views of the Fuerteventura coastline. Besides its visiting tourists and local fishermen it is currently home to a variety of sea birds and oceanic wildlife. Barracuda, Hammerhead sharks and sea bream can often be seen off the Lobos coast. So whether you sail here for the beaches and your sun tan or the wildlife itself, Lobos offers you an escape from the rest of the world, albeit for a short while.

The journey should take approximately 15 – 20 minutes during which you will expect the greatest on board service.

Price of Fuerteventura Lobos Island Boat Trip in 2023 – for adults – 16.50 €; for children between 4-11 years old – 10.50 €, for infants between 0-3 years old free of charge.
There is currently only one ferry company travelling to and from Los Lobos, the Naviera Nortour company. You should take bus line 6 or make your way to the end of the port of Corralejo. The journey from Corralejo takes around fifteen minutes from the northern point of Fuerteventura. This is a hop on hop off service so it could not be easier to do! If you are staying on the island of Lanzarote they also have a ferry service to Los Lobos. Around 27 journeys are made weekly by the ferry company, which means about three or four times a day, again of course weather permitting. With around 3000 hours of sunshine a year the ferry boat leaves most days.
You will always need a good sun cream and sun hat the rest is up to you. Some money and good footwear just in case you decide to do a little island exploring. A camera is a must have! Whether you are an amateur or professional photographer, the island is a veritable paradise, not only for wildlife but some of the most amazing dramatic scenery of the Canary Islands.
Availability on the island is limited and we highly recommend that you take a snack with you as well as drinking water.
As well as being a paradise for the avid trekker the beach lover will be equally at home here. make sure that you have your swim suits and a towel at hand!
