The aptly named Poema del Mar or Sea Poem in English, sums up this aquarium in a nutshell. This is the perfect place to visit and learn about life under the sea and is suitable for all ages. There are three zones waiting for you to discover once inside the aquarium.
The aquarium is home to many different species that you might otherwise never have the chance to see. From American Paddlefish, Black Ghost Knifefish, Clownfish, Domino Damsels, Electric Eels, French Grunts, Giant Spider crabs to Long Snouted Sea Horses there are fish and other marine life that will leave you aghast at the plethora of colour and diversity of species that live under the water.
You may visit the Jungle, Deep Ocean and Reef-Beach zones where there is something exquisite just waiting for you to arrive. In the Jungle zone you will walk through the jungle, crossing rope bridges and peering down into the waters below. You will maybe catch a glimpse at a scorpion or crocodile as you travel through the environment. Once in the Deep Ocean zone you will be on hand to feel the enormity of the World’s Oceans as you are under the water with sharks, sting rays and other oceanic wildlife swimming above you. The Reef-Beach zone is an underwater walkway through the coral reefs that are home to some fascinating fish just waiting for you to spot.
A visit to the aquarium will leave you feeling that you have visited another world and you are sure to feel humbled by the diversity and amount of species that you have observed inside. This is a day out not to be missed, especially if you are travel with children and the young at heart!

The aquarium is open for visits every day between 09:30 and 17:30 every day working with a limited capacity due to Covid regulations. Poemas del Mar is located in las Palmas de Gran Canaria and can be accessed by taking the bus from most of the major resorts on the Island. The buses that stop within easy walking distance of the aquarium are numbers 12, 21, 45, 47 and 60.
Inside the aquarium you will find an a la carte restaurant, snack bar and café to cater for you should you wish to sit down for something to eat or drink. The Nestro Restaurant is well worth a visit as you can eat your lunch sat next to one of the large windows looking into the aquarium. Who knows, maybe a curious creature will come and see what you are having for lunch?
There is also an onsite gift shop available for you to buy souvenirs of your visit beneath the surface. Of course there are also W.C. and baby changing facilities available for you to use.
