Overview

Something a little different on your holiday “to do” list is the Camel Safari.  Based at La Baranda Camel Ranch, a variation on the obligatory horse safari this is a half day excursion that offers you the chance to ride your very own ship of the desert across the mini Sahara that is Mas Palomas sands.  With the sea as backdrop just behind Playa Del Ingles you will find the camel ranch and the inland flora behind the sands themselves. This sand has blown on a westerly Sahara wind to rest in Gran Canaria and is indeed a mini Sahara.

The ranch is located just outside of Playa del Ingles in a natural oasis.  As you journey by camel through the beautiful reserve you will be able to see mango trees, papaya trees and encounter farm animals along the way.

All in all a great way to explore another side to this amazing sub tropical island and one experience you will be happy to recount to friends and family when you get home.

For those of you who are nervous about riding the camels they are fitted with two seater saddles flanking each side of the humps, which means they are comfortable to ride on and are fitted with a ballast if only one person rides.  You will not be sitting directly on the camels hump!

At approximately 30 minutes this is perhaps one of the shorter of the Island Tours but no less enjoyable.  You will have a guide walking alongside the camels plus one riding ahead to ensure your comfort and security at all times,  After a short tour along the pathways and over the Mas Palomas dunes you will return to La Baranda for refreshment and to view any pictures you might wish to purchase  that have been taken during your safari.

Q & A

How much is the Gran Canaria Camel Riding in 2023?

Cost of Camel Safari in Gran Canaria in 2023 are:

  • Adults : 36 €
  • Chidren (3 – 11 Years) : 18 €
  • Infants (0 – 2 Years) : Free

What should i wear?

Wear comfortable loose clothing and avoid scented deodorants or perfume as this may be disconcerting to the camels.

The safari lasts approximately 30 minutes, which under the Gran Canarian sun is long enough for camels and humans.  It is advisable to take a bottle of water along with you and a good hat to give yourself some shade.

Is it suitable for all the family?

Yes, absolutely! Young children may ride with their parents, while older children and adults are equally comfortable riding alone.

Do i need a camera?

Why not leave the camera at home as La Baranda usually has an onsite photographer should you wish to purchase the wonderful memory of your own mini Sahara expedition, although you may take your own camera if you so wish.
