A ride through a Martian landscape? No just the Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote. You would be forgiven for thinking other. The martian type landscape of the Park has been formed over the last three hundred years. The El Golfo Volcano last erupted in the 1870s and gave birth to the spectacular land mass that is now enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year. More so the Lanzarote Islanders have learned how to farm this land into a modern day environment, living as one with nature.
The Southern part of the Island gives way to unusual green oasis type areas amid the rocky landscape. Its beaches are often white and sandy, but can equally be black sand or rock. Indeed the very colours of Southern Lanzarote are what make it seem unique in the world.
Besides the unusual beaches and landscapes are the coastal resort towns. Arrecife, about halfway down the eastern coast of Lanzarote, is the capital of the Island, with the ever popular Playa Blanca at its southernmost tip. These modern cosmopolitan towns compliment the backdrop with their stark whiteness. The Island boasts 300 plus days of sunshine each year, so the white buildings reflect the heat of the sun. This and the close proximity to the Western Sahara give the discerning tourist many chances to visit the Island throughout the year, practically with a guarantee of enjoyable sunshine. Hardly surprising then that there is no better way to enjoy this marvellous southern terrain than by jeep.

Lanzarote Timanfaya Jeep Safari is every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between 09:20 AM to 04:20 PM
There are no hotel transfers for Lanzarote Timanfaya Jeep Safari. Point of departure: Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas, Las Palmas
The meeting point will usually be at Playa Del Carmen. With a maximum of 6 passengers per jeep, you will travel in a comfortable 4 x 4 vehicle, adept at travelling the Lanzarote route of the volcanoes. You will set off from there to Timanfaya National Park, the home of El Golfo Volcano. Your Guide/Driver will be English speaking and can answer your questions along the route.
First stop will be the Museum of the Farmers, where you will be given some information on the agriculture of the Island.
From the museum we will travel to La Geria and a vineyard that produces a quality wine popular throughout Spain and the Canaries. You may even be given an opportunity to sample the wine.
As you travel on through the amazing landscape of Timanfaya, you will have a refreshment stop before your visit to El Golfo volcano, with its black beaches and rocky landscape. Here you will see the green lagoon, formed by hydrovolcanism, that is where the sea passes through the volcano and the water becomes a vibrant green! An incredible sight to see, where the sea beats deafeningly against the rocks at Los Hevideros.
You will be taken from here to the Salinas de Janubio. These are the salt flats of Lanzarote, of immense importance to the local people as a source of preservation and canning of foods.
The last stop of the day will be Papagayo Beach, with its rocky surround, where you will stay for a relax and swim in the Atlantic Sea, before heading off back to Playa Del Carmen and the original group pick up point.
